What is Covered

Coverage is limited to the chosen protection amount:

Unpaid Rent
and Utilities

Covers outstanding rent and utilities such as water or electricity when the lease ends.​​​​

Property
Damage

Pays for repairs to damage beyond normal wear and tear, including:

• Broken windows
• Carpet burns or stains
• Damaged appliances​

Excessive Cleaning

Covers extra cleaning costs if the property is not returned in a clean condition.​​​

Lease
Breaks

Protection if the tenant ends the lease early without proper notice.​​​​​​

Missing
Items

Covers the replacement of missing keys, fixtures, or items listed in the inspection report.​​​

Legal and Eviction

Legal eviction cover for Magistrates’ and High Courts. Landlords pay only sheriff’s costs.

Legal & Eviction Assistance

DepositSafe includes legal cost protection of up to R40,000 for eviction proceedings when required.

•  Covers Magistrates’ and High Court evictions.
•  Applies when a tenant refuses to vacate after valid legal notice.
•  Landlords are only responsible for sheriff’s costs.


This applies if the lease is lawfully terminated due to:
•  Non-payment of rent
•  A serious breach of the lease
•  Failure to move out at the end of the lease.

Making a Claim

If a tenant does not meet their obligations:

Step 01

The landlord submits a claim.

Step 02

The insurer manages the claims and recovery process.

Step 03

The tenant remains responsible for any amounts not covered.​

The insurer may recover costs from the tenant through legal channels.
